i first listened to dogwood dignitaries while out on a walk with my dog last october. seven months into the pandemic and three months away from contracting covid, it was a moment of relief in a very, very hot autumn. listening to the sum of a person's creative efforts while experiencing my own creative drought was amazing. life goes on! always. even when you're redefining your relationship with your art and what it means to pursue it commercially. this is not a diary entry but DAMN last year was tough.
THE POINT IS albums take a lot of time and effort to complete. i love them, they're the whole point of music. i might have spent my quarantine listening to the same playlist and muting everyone i've ever met on social media but this dude was out here getting ready to show us a whole world. albums are special, world-building is special. the one evan gives to us in dogwood dignitaries is special.
i feel compelled to say that "dark room" is amazing and sounds like lady gaga in her prime. if anyone takes that as an insult then you shouldn't be here in the first place. the whole second half of "dark room" gave me goosebumps the first time i heard it in 90 degree october LA heat. and continues to every time i hear it.
